We are honored to be a part of the California Local News Fellowship and excited to have Sydney aboard. She brings a rich journalism background to our regional team, and we look forward to providing the communities of Mendocino County with more in-depth local news coverage.
A multimedia journalist and storyteller, Sydney grew up in southern Humboldt County where she began her journalism career at KMUD Community Radio Station. Her reporting focuses on harm reduction policies, mental health and cannabis legislation, with a keen interest in the aftermath of the War on Drugs. |

Sydney has contributed to KALW Radio, KCBS Radio, the Oaklandside, Berkeleyside, East Bay Express and various New York outlets like Bushwick Daily and Bklyner. She is also an award-winning podcaster for NYU Furman Center's "In Our Backyard," which highlights the housing crisis in Inwood, NYC.
Sydney joins Ruth Dusseault and Steve Brooks, who joined our newsroom a few months ago through this fellowship program. Ruth is an investigative reporter and multimedia journalist focused on the environment and energy. Steve, currently incarcerated at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, is writing stories for us from inside every week.
